Cookie policy

Walk Finder uses the smallest number of cookies it can. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers - which is why you aren't asked to accept or reject anything.
We do count how the site is used, but it is done on our own server without cookies and without storing your IP address, so there is nothing stored on your device to consent to. The privacy policy explains exactly how.

Under the UK's PECR rules, cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for don't require consent. All of the above are in that category, so there's no cookie wall here - just this page.
Stored in your browser, not a cookie

Appearance preference - whether you've chosen light or dark, kept in
localStorageon your device. It never reaches our server. -
The map position in the address bar - the
#map=…part of the URL, so you can share or bookmark a view. It isn't stored anywhere else.
Third parties
Map tiles load straight from the OpenStreetMap Foundation (and OpenTopoMap if you switch layers), so those services see your IP address. They don't set cookies for us, and we have no control over what they set for themselves - see their own policies. If you click Street View or Google Maps on a dropped pin, Google's own cookies apply once you're on their site.

Turning cookies off
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block ours you can still browse the map as a guest, but you won't be able to sign in or save places, because the sign-in process depends on the session cookie.
